I help nonfiction crime writers improve their work. I do that by creating resources that include articles, books, and End of Sentence, a free weekly newsletter you should definitely sign up for. I also offer services like editing.
More generally, I help people understand crime.
I consider nonfiction crime writers those who deal in crime facts, including journalists, academics, online creators, true crime writers, police communications officers, and others. I believe that understanding crime is the basis for preventing it and the suffering it causes, so I believe that nonfiction crime writers do important work.
Additionally, I'm an emerging science journalist with an MA in criminology & criminal justice policy who writes about crime research, so I'm a nonfiction crime writer too.
My current projects include:
- A book about crime statistics for nonfiction crime writers.
- Regular reporting on peer-reviewed criminological and criminal justice research.
- Two one-person Medium publications: True Crime Adjacent and Nonfiction Crime Writing (forthcoming).
- End of Sentence, a free weekly newsletter for nonfiction crime writers that includes advice and links to new scholarly research. New scholarly research is a goldmine for story ideas and people to interview. (Sign up here.)
